Introduction of the Rupture Disk Sampler
The RD Sampler is a full open sleeve type sampler for use on drill stem tests service. This Rupture Disk sampler is operated by increasing annulus pressure to a predetermined level to initiate the closing of the tool. The sleeve rupture disk sampler retains its full open capabilities even after it has trapped its sampler. Several of these samplers may be run on a test to allow sampling at different times.

Operation of 3 7/8" Rupture Disck Sampler
The RD sampler is the full bore sampler, controlled by a pressure-operated rupture disk and has a sample mandrel with a built-in differential area. In order to catch a sample in the downhole operation, annulus pressure is increased to a predetermined level, the rupture disk in the sampler breaks, and the mandrel traps the sample.
When the rupture disk breaks, the differential area of the sample mandrel is exposed to an air chamber on one side and hydrostatic pressure and applied annulus pressure on the other. This condition results in the sample mandrel moving up and trapping the sample. When the sample mandrel reaches the top of its stroke, it is locked in place by a set of locking dogs.
The 1,200-cc sample chamber allows a sufficient sample for two 500-cc non- monophasic (bulk) samples.
When the RD sampler is pulled out to the surface, attach sampling pipes or sampling transfer device,connect testing pump with rupture disc case, increase the water pressure to the bottom of piston through pressure ports, and open the sampling valve stem on the sampler case at the same time, the water push the piston up under pressure, make the sample out of sampling chamber to realize sampling or sampling transfer.
