Brief of MFE By-Pass Valve
The MFE By-Pass Valve is Multi-Flow Evaluator applied for the open hole drill stem testing operation.Th MFE serves as a means to by-pass fluid through the packer when tight places are encountered while going in and coming out of the hole, and to equalize the pressure across the packer after a test is complete.
Structure of the MFE By-Pass Valve
The MFE By-Pass Valve are composed of the Main By-Pass, Auxiliary By-Pass and Metering Valve.
The MFE By-Pass Valve, like the Multi-Flow Evaluator is operated by up and down motion. When weight is applied and opened with time delay, the main by-pass ports of the MFE valve are closed quicklly The drill stem weight will be removed and tension applied. A pull of 20,000 Ibs. Above the free point for 1 to 2 minutes should be exerted on the MFE By-Pass to open it after a test. This time delay gives ample safety factor to insure the operator that the MFE is fully extended when going from the open to shut-in position.
The oil in the Valve Housing is by-pass between the valve and Upper Mandrel on the down stroke. For this reason, the main by-pass ports may be closed while going in the hole if it was necessary to spud through tight spots. Therefore, to by-pass well fluid while going in the hole under all conditions an Auxiliary By-Pass is provided.
