Introduction of Open Hole Multi-Flow Evaluator
The Multi-Flow Evaluator, which has dual control valves, is sequentially opened and closed by up and down motion of the drill stem, the MFE is in the closed position going in the hole and is opened with a time delay, by applying weight to the drill stem when bottom is reached .Following this delay the drill stem drops rapidly one inch, indicating opening.
To close the MFE the drill stem is picked up through the free point and moderate tension is applied, then weight is set back down. To re-open the MFE the same operation of up and down motion is repeated. The unlimited number of shut-in and flow periods gives additional information for chart analysis.
The Multi-Flow Evaluator’s dual control valves trap a sample of flowing fluid at the end final flow period. This sample is brought to the surface under pressure with the string of tools. A choke retainer in the top sub allows flexibility in bottom choke size.

Constructure of Open Hole Multi-Flow Evaluator
The MFE consists of three basic sections: indexing, delay, and sampling. Each of these sections will be described in detail below.
The indexing section consists of three basic parts: Spline Mandrel, Spline Sleeve, and J-Pin, The function of the indexing section is to sequentially open and close the testing valve as the spline Mandrel is moved up and down.
The “opening indication” mentioned above is incorporated into the delay system. The MFE incorporates a delay system similar to a conventional hydraulic tool: the hydraulic delay is effective when slacking down, but “disengaged” while picking up.
The sampler section is a full flow-through type. All of the formation fluid passes through the sampler before entering the drill pipe when slacking down, but “disengaged” while picking up.
