Drill Stem Testing Tools Oil and Gas Well Select Tester Valve Operation
How to operate the select tester valve.
The select tester valve is a kind of downhole tester valve in Halliburton type, which is used to drill stem testing operation in oil well / gas well.
Under normal operating conditions the tool would be run in the well in the closed position. Once the packer is set, pressure is applied to the annulus to operate the tester valve.
To operate the select tester valve, the metering cartridge delays the transmission of this pressure to the bottom side of the power cartridge. This creates the differential pressure that acts across the power cartridge area to produce the force necessary to open the ball.
After a specific time (which is dependent upon bottom hole conditions and applied pressure), the nitrogen pressure increased by the amount of pressure applied to the annulus. When the applied annulus pressure is released to close the ball valve, the metering cartridge delays the release on this pressure from the nitrogen section.
At this point differential pressure passes through the power cartridge and acts across the operating piston area which will move the operating mandrel up and close the ball valve. To activate the lock-out feature the normal applied operating pressure is increased by 1300～1500 psi.
After the nitrogen pressure has been allowed time to stabilize, a minimum of 10 minutes is required, the annulus pressure is released
